Franz Gertsch Museum Burgdorf Bern 01

The Museum Franz Gertsch is a private art museum in Burgdorf, a city in the Canton of Bern, primarily dedicated to the Swiss artist Franz Gertsch (b. 1930)

The museum was founded by Franz Gertsch, together with industrialist Willy Michel, to present to the public his work, and to host temporary exhibitions of other contemporary artists.
The cube-shaped museum building was completed in 2002 after a design by architects Hansueli Jörg and Martin Sturm.

The permanent collection of the museum comprises paintings, woodcuts, and mixed-media works by Franz Gertsch, dating from the early 1970s to the present.

As mentioned earlier, the museum also features temporary exhibitions mostly, yet not exclusively, dedicated to contemporary artists from German-speaking countries.

The museum also organizes guided tours and art workshops for kids, adults, and classes, and includes a cafeteria, a conference room, and a gift shop.
