Milan Design Week 2026 – Isola Design Festival, a preview
Milan is getting ready, as it does every year, to host Milan Design Week.
The Salone del Mobile.Milano, once again held in the halls of Fiera Milano Rho, will open on April 21 and close on April 26, while the FuoriSalone — the constellation of events taking place across hundreds of venues throughout the city — will run from April 20 to April 26.

We begin our preview of the upcoming Milan Design Week 2026 with the program of Isola Design Festival.
With the theme “Ten Evolving Now”, Isola Design Festival reflects on its ten‑year history: created to meet the need for visibility among emerging designers—limited by the scarcity of available spaces and increasingly prohibitive costs—what started as a local event has grown into an international festival, establishing itself as one of the key districts of Milan Design Week and evolving into a digital platform supporting a global network.
During Milan Design Week, the event has expanded year after year across a progressively larger area; building on last year’s renewed focus on the Isola neighborhood, Isola Design Festival 2026 brings the public back to the heart of the district.

FABBRICA SASSETTI – (Via Filippo Sassetti 31, Milan)
The 2026 edition marks a return to Fabbrica Sassetti, a former wool‑spinning factory built in the 1930s, which reopens to the public as the main venue of the Festival. The following exhibitions will be hosted:
Isola Design Gallery
Now in its seventh edition, with exhibitions held both in Italy and the Netherlands, the gallery showcases artisanal products, collectible design, and custom pieces, bringing together designers from Germany, South Korea, Denmark, and Japan.
No Space for Waste
This exhibition brings together projects focused on circular design, production‑process control, and the reuse of discarded or underutilized resources.
Rasa – The Indian Collective
A celebration of India’s artisanal tradition, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. The Sanskrit word Rasa refers to the emotional expression that emerges from the creative experience.
The Dutch Atelier
Highlighting the importance of the Dutch design scene within the Isola Design Festival network, this exhibition offers a snapshot of contemporary Dutch design, characterized by experimentation and conceptual clarity.

FONDAZIONE CATELLA (Via Gaetano de Castilla 28)
Default Is Not Universal – The Same Design, Different Perceptions is an exhibition curated by Isola for Ithra – King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, challenging the notion of a single, universal perspective. Moving away from a static approach, the exhibition actively engages visitors, inviting them to interact with works by designers from the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa) and to become an integral part of the experience.
STECCA3 (Via Gaetano de Castilla 26)
The New State of Materials by Materially presents a curated selection of cutting‑edge materials developed according to principles of innovation, circularity, and decarbonization. The showcase ranges from alternatives to plastic and wood to smart and bio‑based materials, metallic finishes, and second‑generation solutions for both digital and traditional manufacturing.

Archivi Futuri is an exploration of the future of objects beyond 2050. Co‑curated by Isola and Pietro Petrillo, the exhibition uses photography, video, and archival materials to reflect on how contemporary creative production can remain sustainable and accessible for future generations. Bringing together forward‑thinking designers, studios, and companies, the project investigates how knowledge, materials, and processes can be preserved through artificial intelligence, traditional craftsmanship, and meticulous documentation.
Rising Talents once again highlights outstanding students, recent graduates, and emerging designers from around the world. The project gathers bold ideas, distinctive perspectives, and inventive approaches that define the next generation of designers. Themes range from material experimentation to the reinvention of everyday rituals and the interplay between form and function, embodying a desire to challenge conventions.
URBAN COLLECTIVE PROJECT
Created in collaboration with Designtech, the Urban Collective Project consists of a series of installations spread throughout the district, conceived as an invitation to reflect on how we inhabit and shape urban space. Here is the list and locations of the installations:
Oasi in città by Aura (Via Gaetano de Castillia 23)
Corpo by Northernlightcomposites and Scandurra Studio (Via Francesco Restelli and Via Filippo Sassetti 32)
Maddie is in the air by MadeInAdd (Via Gaetano de Castillia 28)
WALKING THROUGH THE DISTRICT
Beyond its main venues, the Isola Design Festival will transform the entire Isola neighborhood into an epicenter of exhibitions, installations, events, workshops, live demonstrations, and design talks.
