The Stedelijk in Amsterdam is one of the leading museums in Europe dedicated to modern and contemporary art, graphic arts, and design.

The museum, founded in 1874, is housed since 1895 in a Renaissance-revival building close to the Van Gogh museum and the Rijksmuseum; in 2012, the old building has been completely renovated and a modern expansion, designed by the Dutch architects Benthem Crouwel, has been added.

The Stedelijk Museum is renowned for its visual art collection, ranging from the late 19th century to the present day, that includes works by Van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg, Malevich, Kandinsky, Chagall, Kirchner, Matisse, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Robert Rauschenberg, Ellsworth Kelly, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Donald Judd, Bruce Nauman, Sol LeWitt, Mario Merz, Robert Ryman, Richard Serra, and Georg Baselitz, just to name a few.
The museum also houses a relevant design collection, with works by Gerrit Rietveld, Jan van der Vaart, Josef Hoffmann, Marcel Breuer, Tadanori Yokoo, Ingo Maurer, and Ettore Sottsass, among others, as well as a very interesting selection of graphic works.

The Stedelijk organizes temporary exhibition organization and educational activities for adults, families, children, and schools; the museum has also created an advisory group, named Blikopeners, composed of boys and girls from 15 to 19 years old, which collaborates with the organization of educational programs.
The museum also runs the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam (SMBA), a project space devoted to fostering and promoting new and experimental artistic expressions.
At the Stedelijk, a specialized library, a shop, and a restaurant are available to the visitors.
The museum is fully accessible to people with disabilities.
