The museum was opened in 2004 and is housed in an iconic building, designed by British architectural practice Brisac Gonzalez.
The large museum collections include objects, artworks, documents, and photos from all over the world and are exposed mainly in thematic exhibitions.

The museum develops, through a wide network of relationships with other International institutions, an intense cultural and educational activity, which includes temporary exhibitions, dance performances, concerts, conferences, and educational activities addressed to both children and adults.

Along with the exhibition spaces, the museum includes a research center, a comprehensive library, a 200-seat auditorium, and a restaurant. The Museum of World Culture is fully accessible to people with disabilities.
