Since 2009 the Museo Nazionale Giuseppe Verdi is housed in the Villa Pallavicino, located just outside the fortified wall of the small city of Busseto. This beautiful 16th century building, probably originally used as a summer house, encircled by a moat and surrounded by the countryside, is worth a visit in itself. The exhibition spaces, distributed on two floor levels, are articulated in 21 rooms where the operas of the great composer are depicted.
The operas are presented along a path conceived so to carry the visitor into the Verdi’s age: the exhibition is primarily made of reproductions of the theatrical sets, paintings, fine 19th century textiles, costumes and with Verdi’s arias as a musical background. As an aid for a better historical comprehension, several music stands with texts by Philippe Daverio, are distributed along the itinerary.
