Based at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, Die Neue Sammlung (English: The New Collection) is one of the most important museums of industrial design and applied arts in Germany and Europe.

The museum, possibly the first in the world exclusively focused on design, was founded in 1907, strongly influenced by the principles of the Deutscher Werkbund, the association of artists, designers, architects, and industrialists which substantially renovated and modernized German design at the beginning of the 20th century.

Originally located in Prinzregentenstrasse, in 2002 the museum moved to the premises of the Pinakothek der Moderne in the Kunstareal, the art district of Munich.

Along with the Munich venue, the museum’s network also includes a second design museum in Nuremberg, and a museum dedicated to ceramics, the Internationale Keramik Museum, in the town of Weiden.

The international design collection of the Die Neue Sammlung Munich, one of the largest in the world, encompasses some 100,000 pieces, including furniture, light fixtures, tableware and kitchenware, food and drinks containers and packaging, jewels, ceramics, vehicles, power tools, consumer electronics, typewriters, communication devices, toys and games, clocks, sports equipment, and graphic designs.

Along with a large historical exhibition presenting several pieces from its collection, the museum features four thematic permanent exhibitions.
“Design visions” is a large installation featuring some of the most iconic objects from the permanent collection.
“Mobility” is especially focused on automobile.
“Bentwood. Plywood” presents wood furniture, from Thonet’s chairs to present day designs.
The “Danner Rorunda” accommodates a permanent exhibition focused on jewel design.

Die Neue Sammlung Munich also hosts temporary exhibitions, and special events.
