Milan Design Week 2018 | FLOS pays tribute to Achille Castiglioni
“If you are not curious, forget it” – the title of the exhibition installed at the flagship store of FLOS in Corso Monforte, Milan, to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Achille Castiglioni – is one of the aphorisms of the great Italian designer, born in Milan in February 1918.
A motto which perfectly expresses his design philosopy, and an approach to objects characterized by rigour, and at the same time by light-heartedness, curiosity and irony.
The shop window and the entrance space feature a sequence of “backdrops”, resembling the pages of a comic book, on which dozens of pictures of Achille Castiglioni “play” with some of his most famous lamps, designed together with his brother Pier Giacomo.
A number of niches accommodate a selection of the historical light fixtures Castiglioni designed for FLOS and still on production today, including Arco, Snoopy, Taccia, Parentesi, Toio, and Taraxacum, to name a few. Lamps that are real icons of Italian design, whose names were coined by Castiglioni himself and that he designed with a great care that – as Flos CEO Piero Gandini says – originated from a special affection for things, and the desire to always create objects aimed to make people’s life better.
