Title: Sonia Boyce: Feeling Her Way
Commissioner: Emma Dexter, British Council
Curator: Emma Ridgway
Artist: Sonia Boyce

In the British Pavilion, winner of the Golden Lion for Best National Participation at the 59th Venice Art Biennale, Sonya Boyce explores the human voice as an extraordinary means of freedom and imagination.
Sonia Boyce (London, 1962) played a key role in the creation of the Black-British art scene of the early 1980s and in the contemporary art scene in general through mind-provoking works with which she has always experimented with original forms of art.
In the UK Pavilion, Boyce now proposes a colorful installation, entitled Feeling Her Way, focused on the vocal performances of five Black female musicians: Errollyn Walle, Jacqui Dankworth, Poppy Ajudha, Sofia Jernberg, and Tanita Tikaram.
While in the video installations placed in the side galleries of the pavilion, the musicians sing freely, playing and experimenting with their voices in various ways, the central hall installation presents their meeting at the Abbey Road Studios, where they met and improvised together for the first time.
